Tropical Dan has also spoken of producing a video. His would include all of the Windjammer ships that were present for the eclipse. But his target audience is potential new customers. My purpose is to keep the voyage alive for us. And I have no other news of Dan's effort.
The first step on my video was to make backup copies of the tapes, so that no more of them could be lost. The second step is a rush cut. I carry lots of tape, and I like to roll it whenever anything good might happen soon, so that I won't miss it. That spreads my pictures out among a lot of tape that didn't pay off. For the rush cut, I am doing little more than just putting those pictures back to back, just to see what I have to work with. I had completed the rush cut through about the fourth day of the voyage. And it looked pretty good. So I turned my attention to this Web site for a while.
And then my brand new, 6 gigabyte drive gigabit me. It went down and took all my work on the video with it. I think I can recover at least half of it from my backups. But that will require some reconstruction of the system. Or, if I have to start over from scratch, at least I will have learned a lot about where the usable shots are.
